Welcome to Year 6

Welcome to Year 6 and the Autumn term!

The team is Miss Le Feuvre in 6ALF and Mr Smart in 6JS. Mr Maguire, Mr Thompson and Mrs Savin also work with both classes during the week.

Important Information

This term we will have PE on a Tuesday and a Wednesday, but try to have your kit in school every day just in case.
Home Learning is set on a Wednesday, due for the following Monday. A list of spellings will be sent home to learn each week. This term, you will be given a maths task every week along with an English task, which will usually be linked to grammar and reading comprehension skills.

Autumn Term – Conflict

Our theme for the Autumn term is ‘Conflict’ and our learning will be centred around this idea. This will be linked to life during World War One, both in the trenches and on the home front.

We will be using ‘Archie’s War’, by Marcia Williams and Michael Morpurgo’s ‘Private Peaceful’ amongst others, as our inspirational texts to provide additional insights into life during this time. At the start of the term we will explore the global and political events that culminated in the outbreak of war and learn about the impact of this decision on the lives of ordinary men and women at that time. We will learn about the recruitment process that soldier’s had to go through and the wavering interest in potential recruits as the details of war made their way back home. Throughout the term, we will be engaging with a range of historical sources to enhance our learning and use this to develop our understanding of what life may have been like in Wilmslow and the surrounding areas throughout World War One.

We will be using a range of texts, images, video and social media to inform our learning throughout the Spring term – keep an eye on our Year 6 Tweets for updates along the way!
