Welcome to Year 6

Welcome to Year 6

Our teaching team includes Miss Le Feuvre and Mr Smart (Class Teachers). Mr Maguire (Head of School) and Mr Thompson (Deputy Head of School) are also part of the teaching team for English and Maths sessions.

Our theme for the Spring term is ‘Into the Unknown…’ and our learning will be centred around this idea. This will be linked to South America and the Amazon Rainforest in Geography. On our class bookshelves are the following texts, that will be used to inspire all aspects of our learning throughout the term: ‘Jemmy Button’ by Jennifer Uman & Valerio Vidali, ‘The Explorer’ by Katherine Rundell, ‘Kensuke’s Kingdom’ by Michael Morpurgo, ‘Survivors’ by David Long & Kerry Hyndman, ‘Rules of Summer’ by Shaun Tan and ‘The Island’ by Armin Greder.

Important Information for Year 6:

  • This term we will have PE on a Monday (indoor) and a Wednesday (outdoor) but try to have your kit in school every day just in case.
  • Home Learning is set on a Wednesday, due for the following Monday. You will continue to be given a Maths task each week, along with an English task (usually linked to Grammar and Reading Comprehension skills). A list of spellings will be sent home to learn at the start of each half term. This has the test date for each week’s 5 spellings.

We will be using a range of writing, images, video and social media to inform our learning throughout the Spring Term – keep an eye on our Year 6 Tweets @GorseyY6 for updates along the way!
