Welcome to Year 6

Welcome to Year 6 and the Summer term!

Mr Thompson and Miss Hooker are the class teachers in 6RT and Miss Le Feuvre is the class teacher in 6ALF. Mrs Savin, Mr Maguire and Mrs Romer also work with both classes during the week.

Important Information

Our library days are Tuesday (6RT/EH) and Thursday (6ALF), so don’t forget your library book!

This term we will have PE on a Monday and a Thursday, but try to have your kit in school every day just in case.

Home Learning is set on a Wednesday, due for the following Monday. A list of spellings will be sent home to learn each week. This term, you will be given a maths task every week along with an English task, which will usually be linked to grammar and reading comprehension skills.

Spring Term – Breaking Boundaries

Our theme for the Spring term is ‘Breaking Boundaries’ and our learning will be centred around this idea. This will be linked to life during World War One, both in the trenches and on the home front.

We will be using ‘Archie’s War’, by Marcia Williams, as our Inspirational Text and Michael Morpurgo’s ‘Private Peaceful’ as our Class Novel to provide additional insights into life during this time. At the start of the term we will explore the global and political events that culminated in the outbreak of war and learn about the impact of this decision on the lives of ordinary men and women at that time. We will learn about the recruitment process that soldier’s had to go through and the wavering interest in potential recruits as the details of war made their way back home. Throughout the term, we will be engaging with a range of historical sources to enhance our learning and use this to develop our understanding of what life may have been like in Wilmslow and the surrounding areas throughout World War One.

We will be using a range of texts, images, video and social media to inform our learning throughout the Spring term – keep an eye on our Year 6 Tweets for updates along the way!

We’re very proud of this individual’s efforts in English today to create a gripping tale about a young girl who stumbles upon a mysterious looking building in an abandoned part of town #gorseyenglish
