Welcome to Year 6

Welcome to Year 6 and the Summer term!

Mr Thompson and Miss Maguire are our class teachers and Miss Hooker, Mr Maguire, Mrs Savin. Other adults that work with us during the week are: Mrs Sherrington, Mrs Wallwork and Mrs Simpson.

Important Information

Our library day is Thursday so don’t forget your library book!

This term we will have PE on a Monday and a Friday, but try to have your kit in school every day just in case.

Home Learning is set on a Wednesday, due for the following Monday. A list of spellings will be sent home to learn each week. As we are now in Year 6, an extra piece of homework will also be set once per week – this will either be Maths or SPaG, to be handed in the next day!

Summer Term – A Different World

Our theme for the Summer term is ‘A Different World’ and our learning will be centred around this idea. Initially, we will think about this through the perspective of ‘Little Mouse’ who is a key character in our Inspirational Text ‘Little Mouse’s Big Book of Fears’ by Emily Gravett. Throughout this term, we will also be reading ‘The Girl of Ink and Stars’ by Kiran Millwood Hargrave as our class novel.

A large amount of our learning will link with the idea of facing our fears and phobias, particularly as we move towards the end of our time at Gorsey Bank ahead of the adventures and challenges that await at High School. We will be considering how some people live in fear through no fault of their own e.g. victims of war, as well as considering those who are brave enough to break the mould and face their fears/or the fears of others e.g. The Civil Rights Movement in America and the impact that this had on the United Kingdom and other parts of the world.

We will be using a range of texts, images, video and social media to inform our learning throughout the Summer term – keep an eye on our Year 6 Tweets for updates along the way!
