Welcome to Year 4

Welcome to Year 4

Our teaching team includes Miss Grice, Miss Ashworth, Mrs Romer (Class Teachers) and Mrs Hollingworth (Teaching Assistant). We will also be utilising the expertise of Miss Torra for our Languages and Mr Eccles for our Music learning each week.

Our Spring Term theme is ‘Not everything is as it seems’, inspired by a range of exciting books which make up our class bookshelves. We will be using ‘Greek Myths’ and ‘Who Let the Gods Out?’ to inspire much of our History learning about Ancient Greece, as well as our Geography learning as we will look at how Greece has changed over time. In RE we will continue to develop our knowledge on the teachings and beliefs of a range of different religions and will be using ‘The Little Book of Hindu Deities’ to explore some of the Hindu Gods in more detail. The idea of not everything is as it seems and how things aren’t always quite how they appear will be explored in our English and Reading learning by looking at the magic and possibilities within the books; ‘Leon and the Place between,’ ‘Jumanji’ and ‘Noah Barleywater Runs Away.’
This term will also see us begin to learn how to play our own brass instruments.

Important information for Year 4:
• We are timetabled to have PE every Tuesday and Wednesday, but please have both your indoor and outdoor PE kit in school every day, as plans may change!
• This Year we will visit the school library one afternoon during the week (usually on Fridays), so please remember to have your library book in your school bag so that it can be changed. Please also remember to have your Reading Record in your bag each day for our Guided Reading sessions.
• Home Learning is sent home on a Wednesday, due for the following Monday. Spellings are sent home at the start of the term and will be tested in groups of 5 each Wednesday, so please also ensure that your Spelling book is in your bag for this.

There will be lots going on in Year 4 this term, so please follow us on Twitter @GorseyY4 to keep up to date with our learning!
