Welcome to Year 4
Welcome to Year Four and the Autumn term!
The Year Four team consists of Miss Grice (4HG) and Miss Ashworth (4GA) who are the class teachers. They are supported by Mrs Jones, Mrs Sherrington, Miss Clowes and Miss Barker. We will be taught by Mrs Romer and Mrs Savin for part of the day on Tuesday and will be utilising the expertise of Miss Torra for our Languages learning each week.
We are timetabled to have PE every Monday and Tuesday, but please have both your indoor and outdoor PE kit in school every day, as plans may change!
This Year we will visit the school library one morning during the week, so please remember to have your library book in your school bag. Please also remember to have your Reading Record in your bag each day for our Guided Reading sessions.
Home Learning is sent home on a Wednesday, due for the following Monday.
Spellings are sent home at the start of the term and will be tested in groups of 5 each Wednesday so please ensure your Spelling book is in your bag for this.
Autumn Term – ‘Great Britain’
Our theme this term is ‘Great Britain’ and our learning will inspired by a range of exciting books which will make up our class bookshelf this term.
Some of our books are British classics such as ‘Paddington’ and ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’ as well as more modern British novels like ‘The London Eye Mystery’ and ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’. We have also got some Non-fiction books like ‘A Walk in London’ and ‘Pop-up London’ to support our learning this term.
For Geography this term, we will consider where Great Britain is within the world and the similarities and differences of our country compared to others, such as Peru. Our History learning will be about life in Tudor times, who Henry VIII was and why he had so many wives! For our RE learning this term we will looking at the teachings and beliefs of Christianity, Hinduism and Sikhism, just some of the religions that can be found within Great Britain. For the first half of Autumn our Science topic will be States of Matter, which will involve us looking at solids, liquids and gases, observes changes of state in different materials and learn about the water cycle.
There will be lots going on in Year Four this term, so please follow us on Twitter (@GorseyY4) to keep up to date with our exciting learning!
