Welcome to Year 2
Welcome to Year 2 and the Spring term!
Miss Grice and Miss Watkins are the class teachers in Year 2.
There are many other adults who also work in our team. We are taught by Mrs Romer and Miss Cheetham (Teachers) every Thursday for part of the day. We also have Miss Tetley and Mrs Coates (Teaching Assistants) who work with us during the week.
This Year we will visit the school library on a Tuesday morning – please remember to have your library book on this day. School reading books will be changed weekly during Guided Reading sessions.
We are timetabled to have PE every Monday and Friday, but please have both your indoor and outdoor PE kit in school every day, as plans may change!
Home is sent home on a Wednesday, due for the following Monday. Spellings are sent home at the start of the term and will be tested in groups of 5 each Wednesday.
Spring Term 1 – Adventure
Our theme this term is ‘Adventure’ and our learning will be influenced by our new inspirational text ‘How to Catch a Star’ by Oliver Jeffers. We will develop our understanding of the book by exploring the pictures and language and share our own answers to the question ‘how would you catch a star?’.
Through our English learning we will continue to develop our story writing skills and consider the narrative the story follows. We will also consider different points of views when writing, for example write diary entries as the boy, become journalists and write newspaper articles and write instructions to help the star settle on earth. Our Science topic is ‘Living things and their Habitats’ in which we investigate animals and habitats in our local area as well as considering those further afield. Our Maths learning this term will focus on developing our understanding of multiplication and applying this to begin to understand division. We will also continue to revisit strategies for addition and subtraction and practise these through arithmetic and problem solving questions.
There will be lots of exciting learning going on in Year 2 this term, please follow us on Twitter to keep up to date with our adventures.
