Welcome to Year 2
Welcome to Year 2 and the Summer term!
Miss Grice and Miss Watkins are the class teachers in Year 2.
There are many other adults who also work in our team. We are taught by Mrs Romer and Miss Cheetham (Teachers) every Wednesday for part of the day. We also have Miss Tetley and Mrs Coates (Teaching Assistants), Mrs Jones, Mrs Thomas and Mr Taylor (SENTAs) working with us throughout the week.
This Year we will visit the school library on a Tuesday morning – please remember to have your library book on this day. School reading books will be changed weekly during Guided Reading sessions.
We are timetabled to have PE every Monday and Friday, but please have both your indoor and outdoor PE kit in school every day, as plans may change!
Home Learning and Spellings are sent home on a Wednesday, due for the following Monday.
Summer Term 1 – Adventure…
For the beginning of this term our theme of adventure continues… Our adventure takes us far away, all the way to Space, where you find a particularly special star. Our inspirational text is ‘How to Catch a Star’ by Oliver Jeffers and we will using this to inspire our English work by retelling the story in first and third person, using imaginative descriptions to setting descriptions and explore diary and letter writing as we imagine what it would be like to catch our own star and what adventures we may go on with this star. We will also be thinking about the star and how it may need to adapt to our world, we will write instructions and explainations about our lives to help the star understand. We also have lots of exciting Art and Design activities planned linking with our theme of adventure and relating to our inspirational text.
We will also continue our learning in Geography by developing our knowledge of human and physical features and will continue to build our skills as Historians. Within Science our topic is Materials, where we will compare properties, explore changes in materials as well as exploring the practical uses of every day materials.
Throughout this term we will continue to embark on many adventures so please visit our blog to keep up with us and our learning! We hope that you enjoy sharing our learning throughout the Summer Term.
