At Gorsey Bank we attach huge importance to continued Professional Learning and recognise that, in the exciting and ever-changing environment in which we work, we are all learners and are constantly looking for ways to improve our practices.
Our comprehensive programme of in-house Professional Learning comprises weekly pedagogy based sessions, Further Professional Learning sessions, opportunities to coach and mentor and participation in Teaching and Learning Teams.
‘Teaching and Learning Teams’ are now a well-established aspect of our Professional Learning and involve a mixture of class-based action research and the use of the most current national and international educational theory. Over the last few years these action research projects have focused on a range of school improvement priorities such as assessment, process praise, the use of manipulatives in maths and pupil self-assessment as well as looking in details at our ‘3Cs’ of outstanding teaching and learning (Challenge, Choice and Collaboration).
The results from these projects contribute to the ongoing development of teaching practice across the school and are summarised in the documents below.
As a school we are proud to support a number of colleagues on NCTL (National College for Teaching and Learning) courses (such as the NPQSL and NPQML for Middle and Senior Leaders) in order to enhance school improvement and develop the leaders of tomorrow. Many of our staff have completed courses at Masters level or similar and all members of our Senior Leadership Team are Specialist Leaders of Education (SLEs). This means they can support other schools and deliver programmes such as the NPQML.
We are the Lead School in our cluster for the School Direct Programme of Initial Teacher Training (ITT) and, as such, are responsible for the development of trainees across a number of schools.
